What is a better brand of gps navigation units.....Garmin or Magellan and why?

tom tom...cheaper they all basically are the sameGarmin nüvi 760,Excellent gps unit.... my only complaint is the "tinny" sound and the lack of a signal beep as you approach a turn. The features of the 760 are as described and function well... although I've only had my unit for the last 2 days. I'm not too sure whether I'll subscibe to the traffic feature after the 3 month trial subscription expires... but I'll give it a few weeks of use to see if the subscription is worth it.
I'm using the supplied dashboard mount. It seems to be well secured to the dashboard. I don't think I'll need the windshield mount.
I did have to upgrade the software. When I registered the unit on the Garmin webpage, it offered a free upgrade to the 2009 version of the map software. It takes a good hour or two to do the upgrade using the Garmin web updater program that is free to download.
I was quite suprised to find that the brightness of the display is excellent, even in bright sunshine.
All in all this gps is really quite good and very easy to use... I highly recommend it.
